Faculty & Faculty Opportunities
Our faculty are leading experts in their field. California State University Sacramento Center for California Studies and the University of Southern California State Capitol Center are both involved in the selection of faculty and the design of the courses. Institute instructors are selected with three criteria in mind:
- Subject-matter expertise
- Practical experience with counties or public agencies
- Practice facilitating adult education
Faculty includes experts from highly regarded academic institutions, consultants, noted experts, and practitioners – such as supervisors and county administrators — with extensive experience in county leadership and management.
Faculty members participate in special seminars to understand the goals of the Institute, polish their skills in adult instruction, and receive feedback on their course content.
Faculty members receive feedback from each class to help improve instruction and achieve excellence in learning.

Courses Planned, Reviewed
Each Institute course is specifically designed for the CSAC Institute.
Courses are designed around learning objectives, and have a detailed curriculum prepared. Because of this you are assured of a quality learning experience. Institute courses are not “dressed up” lectures or presentations from some conference; they are well-planned learning experiences.
Each course is carefully reviewed by Institute staff to maintain quality and limit duplication between classes.
Interested in Teaching?
The Institute is always looking for practitioners who are interested in joining the faculty!
Participants value the experience and expertise from current and retired county supervisors and senior executives. You bring an invaluable wealth to Institute courses.
Practitioners can be involved in several ways:
- Facilitate a course yourself. Many classes are ideal for design and instruction by current and retired practitioners. We will help you prepare the curriculum and enhance your facilitation techniques
- Participate in a course instructed by others. We find if very helpful to include practitioner faculty to co-facilitate courses, particularly core courses. Practitioners bring concrete examples and can offer real options to dilemmas they have observed in the field.
