NACo Criminal Justice Webinars

NACo is holding several criminal justice webinars in the next few weeks focusing on criminal justice collaboration and mental illness in the criminal justice system. The October 8th webinar will have the Madera County Behavioral Health Services Director, Dennis Koch, talking about how his county is using the Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant (MIOCR) to implement reentry services for people with mental illnesses leaving county jail.

In addition, NACo will hold a webinar on how to create and sustain criminal justice reforms through effective use of criminal justice coordinating councils (CJCCs). On this webinar, speakers will discuss the latest national research on creating sustainable criminal justice policymaking systems and how counties have been able to put this research into practice to further systems change. Hear from county leaders in Oregon and Kentucky about how they’ve been able to build effective criminal justice decision-making bodies, and the impact these have had on their systems.

CDCR Three Judge Panel Update

As of September 9, 2015, 111,656 inmates were housed in the State’s 34 adult institutions, which amounts to 135% of design bed capacity, and 6,508 inmates were housed in out-of-state facilities. The current population is 2,066 inmates below the final court-ordered population benchmark of 137.5% of design bed capacity, and has been under that benchmark since February 2015. The link below provides the status of the measures detailed in the February 10, 2014 Order that Defendants have implemented to reduce the prison population.

Please find attached September 2015 monthly Three-Judge Court status report with exhibits. The State submits the status and benchmark report on the current in-state and out-of-state adult prison populations, as well as, the measures being taken to reduce the prison population in response to the court’s February 10, 2014 order.
