CDCR Wants Comments on Proposition 57 Regulations

July 20, 2017

The public comment period officially opened July 14 for Proposition 57 regulations. California voters passed Prop. 57 last year to enhance public safety by emphasizing offender rehabilitation and preventing federal courts from releasing inmates. It includes an increase in credit-earning opportunities for participating in in-prison programs and activities, as well as parole consideration for nonviolent offenders.

The public comment period will be for a minimum of 45 days. To be considered by CDCR, comments must be submitted to the department before the close of the comment period. Any person may submit their comments to CDCR in a variety of ways. All written comments must be received by the close of the public comment period September 1, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

A public hearing to receive oral comments about this action will be held September 1, 2017 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Department of Water Resources Building Auditorium, 1416 Ninth Street in Sacramento.
