CSAC Forms Domestic Violence Task Force

July 14, 2016

CSAC’s Administration of Justice Policy Committee has established a task force to review domestic violence batterer intervention programs. The long-term goal is to reduce recidivism by supporting the most effective programs. The task force will hold its first meeting next week with stakeholders represented from Supervisors, Chief Probation Officers, District Attorneys, advocates against domestic violence, domestic violence intervention program providers, and the judicial council.

The goal of the task force is to review California’s batterer intervention programs; look at what other states provide for batterer intervention programs; review any research that looks at evidence-based batterer intervention programs; and go through California’s domestic violence batterer intervention statutes to see what changes are needed. The task force will meet through the end of the year with the goal of sponsoring legislation in 2017 in this area.  For additional information on the task force, please contact Darby Kernan.
