New Tax Department Gets A Boss, Consults with Locals
July 13, 2017
Nicolas Maduros has been appointed director at the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, the new department in the California Government Operations Agency that is taking over most duties stripped from the Board of Equalization (BOE).
Maduros served as chief of staff at the U.S. Small Business Administration from 2014 to 2017 and was president of the Delta Policy Group from 2010 to 2014.
In related news, representatives from the administration consulted this week with CSAC and other local government representatives. They listened to concerns about cannabis taxation and regulation and oversight of county assessors and assessment practices. They also answered questions about how the new department will be designed and run and the aggressive timelines for transferring duties from the BOE.
With sales taxes, cannabis taxes, SRA fees, and others administered by the new department all affecting counties, cities, and special districts, open communication like this will be important as the transfer of responsibility continues.
