Description:

The County is seeking a leader who is confident, informed, assertive and ethically sound, who will provide exceptional customer service to the community and is a strong leader and can provide a vision for the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office. This executive level at-will position reports directly to the Board of Supervisors. The primary purpose of the County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures is to provide local administration of enforcement of federal, and state laws and regulations that protect the environment, people, and agricultural commodities in addition to ensuring commodity quality standards are met. Additionally, the position provides the administration of local enforcement of federal and state standards that assure equity in the marketplace thus providing consumer protection. 

Qualifications:

Licenses: Possession of a valid California License as County Agricultural Commissioner and a valid California License as a County Sealer of Weights and Measures; and, possession of a valid, appropriate California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree with major course work in agriculture, or biological or physical science, or a related major as determined by the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture, unless qualified for an exemption pursuant to California Food and Agriculture Code Section 2106.

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in the enforcement of agricultural and/or weights and measures laws, at least two years of which shall have included management, supervisory, or program responsibility experience.

Special Requirements: Ability to: work irregular hours as necessary; travel within and outside the County.

General Requirement: Pursuant to the California Code of Regulations, Title 3, Section 101, shall possess the general qualification of integrity, honesty, sobriety, dependability, industry, thoroughness, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, courtesy, ability to work cooperatively with others, willingness and ability to assume the responsibilities and to conform to the conditions of work characteristics of the employment, and shall be able to perform the essential functions of the job as defined in any county specifications for the position
