Salary:

The salary range is $137,112 – $187,272 annually, DOQ.

Description:

The Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures is appointed by the County Board of Supervisors and has oversight for a wide variety of environmental programs and controls critical to the health and well being of Monterey County’s natural resources and agriculture sector. These include agriculture worker health and safety; regulation of pesticides; agricultural hazardous materials programs; pest prevention, exclusion, and eradication services; and consumer protection. The Commissioner safeguards the County from the introduction of harmful pests and diseases detrimental to agriculture; and promotes and protects agriculture. He/she also provides assurance for business and consumer confidence in the market.

Qualifications:

The selected candidate will have a professional background that includes five years experience in the enforcement of agricultural or weights and measures laws along with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, biological or physical sciences or a related field. Possession of a license of eligibility as a County Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture is also required for this position.
