The County of Sonoma Clerk/Recorder/Assessor’s Office
seeks a capable and motivated Appraiser to join their Assessor Division as an Appraiser II!

Both challenging and rewarding, the responsibility of the Assessor Division is to provide accurate and timely property assessments, and to determine which property tax exemptions and exclusions Sonoma County citizens are eligible for under current California property tax laws.

Appraisers are responsible for conducting field investigations; interpreting legal descriptions, market data, blueprints, and maps; using market, cost, and income approaches to develop total property value; appraising typical properties to develop unit value factors for the re-evaluation of neighborhoods; and conducting market value property appraisals of single family residential, modest residential income, neighborhood, commercial, light industrial, and rural properties.

Qualifications:

Normally, this would include graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major work in business administration, public administration, economics, political science, mathematics, agriculture, engineering, or related fields; and at least one year of recent experience in performing real property appraisal duties in a California Assessor’s Office or in the State Board of Equalization’s Property Tax Department at a level comparable to that of an Appraiser I.

Up to four years of relevant experience can be substituted for the four year college requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experience in real estate sales or transfers will not be considered as experience in real property appraisal.
