Description:

The Assistant Auditor-Controller, under direction, supervises the staff and activities related to general accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, revenue recovery, tax audit and cost-accounting functions; performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of: Principles and methods of administration, including goal setting and policy and procedure development; supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, review, evaluation, and employee training and discipline; auditing principles, practices and methods; principles and practices of general, fund and government accounting, including financial statement preparation and methods of financial reporting; principles and practices of business data processing as related to the processing of accounting information; applicable laws regulating public agency fiscal operations; principles of budgetary administration and control.

Skill in Planning, organizing, assigning, supervising, reviewing and evaluating the work of staff; training staff in work procedures; developing, implementing and interpreting goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards and internal controls; reviewing and verifying the accuracy of financial data and information, and associated legal documents; analyzing, evaluating and reconciling complex financial data; preparing clear, concise and complete financial reports, correspondence, and other written materials; making accurate mathematical and statistical calculations; recommending and implementing improved accounting methods and procedures; interpreting and applying complex financial rules, regulations and ordinances; exercising sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills outlined above is equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a closely related field which has included a concentration in accounting subjects, and four years of professional auditing or accounting experience. Experience in a governmental or public agency setting is desirable.
