The Assistant Health Officer for Public Health Services will be responsible for the medical and public health oversight to various public health programs and will provide public health leadership in the community. This position may act in the absence of the Public Health Officer, and may supervise various Public Health Services Programs. This position is exempt from the San Joaquin County Civil Service System. Appointments to exempt positions are at-will and not governed by the Civil Service Rules.

San Joaquin County Public Health Services is located in Stockton, CA and is a division of the Health Care Services Agency. Public Health Services offers innovative, quality population-based health services to the residents of San Joaquin County. The staff of over 200 professionals serve a diverse community with a population of over 700,000 with respect by acknowledging and supporting diversity, and have a strong tradition of community partnership and leadership in health promotion.

The Health Care Services Agency ensures that mandated functions and services for the health of our residents are provided in an efficient, effective, and culturally appropriate manner, and serves the community through coordination of essential health care programs for the residents of San Joaquin County. The agency consists of Public Health Services, Behavioral Health Services, Public Guardian/Conservator, Substance Abuse Services, Correctional Health Services, Veterans Services, and Emergency Medical Services.

Qualifications:

Possession of an unrestricted physician and surgeon license to practice medicine in the state of California, issued by the Medical Board of California, at the time of hire, and a valid California driver’s license, is required.

Three years of practicing medicine as a licensed physician in fields related to public health practice, a master’s degree in Public Health, and board certification in General Preventive Medicine/Public Health is desirable.
