Description:

Within the Engineering Division, the Associate Civil Engineer will serve as project leader and working supervisor for up to five in-house technical employees on assignments requiring considerable professional knowledge of engineering design principles for roadway and other County infrastructure projects. The Associate Civil Engineering is responsible for ensuring that the division is using proper design principles, construction codes, National and State accepted standards, accessibility requirements, and also providing review oversight and quality control for work being produced. The position may also act as a project manager to solicit, contract with, and manage consultants in the design and preparation of contract documents for Civil Engineering projects. This position will be asked to represent the department at public meetings, sometimes including public presentations for various stakeholders, requiring in-depth understanding of technical principals and sound decision making. There is currently one position available in the Engineering Division.

Qualifications:

The highly qualified candidate will have strong leadership qualities, foster teamwork and a positive work environment, demonstrate effective communication to customers and across organizational levels, as well as possess knowledge and be experienced in the principles and practices of civil engineering, roadway and other County infrastructure design, municipal codes, and construction methods. The person is an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, and able to represent the County at meetings giving presentations to various stakeholders, including community groups and the general public, regulatory and other governmental agencies. The person also has experience leading in-house engineering and technical staff on a day-to-day basis.
