Description:

County of Santa Cruz seeking experienced attorney specializing in one of two areas: (1) Land Use or (2) Civil Litigation.  The most competitive “Land Use” candidates will have expertise in CEQA and other land use laws.  This position will spend considerable time working in public settings with the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.  This position will also be responsible for defending the County’s land use decisions in state and federal court.  The most competitive “Civil Litigation” candidates will have expertise in preparing and trying civil cases in State and Federal Courts.

Qualifications:

THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be:
Three years of experience (gained after admission to a State Bar) as an attorney practicing civil law for a public agency or four years of full time experience as an attorney practicing general civil law.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Membership in the California State Bar.
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the principles of civil, constitutional and administrative law; judicial procedures and the rules of evidence; principles, methods, materials and practices of legal research; statutes and codes applicable to civil procedures; county ordinances and rules; and precedent decisions impacting county operations.
