The Chief Budget Officer ensures that Alameda County has the data to make sound financial decisions. As the Chief Budget Officer, your work is used by County leaders to make strategic decisions that affect the lives of thousands of County residents. A master juggler working on multiple projects at a time, you remain focused on the details while finding creative ways to tackle big picture challenges.

The Chief Budget Officer manages a team of professionals assembling, managing and presenting the County’s nearly $3 billion budget to the Board of Supervisors. In this role, you will become an integral member of the County Administrator’s budget and finance team reporting to a Deputy County Administrator and working directly with the County departments that deliver critical services to County residents.

You are a well-rounded top performer who will be a key contributor in a fast-paced, evolving environment and have a solid foundation in sophisticated budgeting and business strategy. Ultimately, you’re able to shape the direction and influence execution by working with senior leaders in the County. Your outstanding analytical skills, ability to foster relationships, focused prioritization, and clear and concise communication style will earn you a seat at the table. This is a highly influential role which will impact the decision and performance of a team managing the future of Alameda County.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize and direct organization and systems in the major functional area of the County budget.
• Effectively and efficiently manages a team of professionals.
• Structure and communicate complex, ambiguous and potentially charged budget issues for the County management team.

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in administrative and fiscal analysis, and demonstrated experience in budgeting, public policy, public finance and debt management as well as strong analytical, written and oral communication skills. Successful candidates will possess a demonstrated track record of providing high quality public service with a commitment to the ideals of implementing visionary policies and practices that reinforce strong dedication to the community. The ideal candidate will also possess the following critical attributes:

• A strategic thinker who can determine long-term goals as well as identify and design the best approach for achievement.

Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications:
• MPA/MBA or other post-graduate degree.
• Experience in a senior role managing complex budgets.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; comfort and experience with regularly presenting to senior management.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and impeccable business judgment, with professional distinction in thought leadership and innovation.
