Description:

The Chief Building Official is an executive management position that reports directly to the Director of Planning, Building and Environmental Services (PBES).

The Chief Building Official directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Building Division within PBES. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of building inspection, enforcement of California laws and codes, as well as local ordinances dealing with the construction of new buildings and the alteration, use, and ongoing safety of existing buildings.

The Chief Building Official also coordinates activities across other divisions, departments, and outside agencies. They also provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director of PBES. 

Qualifications:

Experience— Six years of increasingly responsible building inspection experience including four years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.

Education— A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in architecture, engineering, construction technology, planning, or a related field.

License or Certificate— Possession of a valid driver’s license and a Chief Building Official certification is required.
