Description:

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Chief Building Official to oversee the dynamic Building Safety division operations in the Community Development Department (CDD). The Chief Building Official works closely with the CDD Director as part of the CDD management team and maintains collaborative relationships with numerous other departments and divisions.
The Chief Building Official provides positive leadership, strong management and administrative expertise for the Building Safety division. Strong technical, problem solving and communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills including a participatory, visible and “hands-on” management style.

Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in structural engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, plan review or a related field; AND Five years of advanced journey level construction inspection or professional engineering experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver’s license or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority and a safe driving record.

Possession and continued maintenance of certification as a Plans Examiner and as a Certified Building Official (CBO) by the International Code Council (ICC).
