Description:

The current vacancy is in Ukiah. The list developed from this recruitment will be used for a limited period to fill open and promotional, regular full-time and/or part-time positions throughout the County, should they occur.

Under administrative direction, oversees and supervises the activities of the Building Division of Planning and Building Services; coordinates building inspection services; develops and implements policies and procedures; provides training for employees; appears before the Building Appeals Board, the Board of Supervisors, business and civic organizations, and public gatherings. The function includes working well with the public and providing technical expertise regarding construction and related regulations within the department.

Qualifications:

One (1) year or equivalent coursework from an accredited college or technical school that includes either administration, electrical systems, construction methods and materials, civil, structural, or mechanical engineering, or a closely related field; AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible related experience that includes work in a supervisory capacity as a Building Inspector, Construction Supervisor, Architect, or closely related occupation. At least six (6) years of experience as a journey-level Building Inspector in a governmental agency utilizing the California Building Code is desirable. OR, a combination of related education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Substitution: One (1) year of related experience may be substituted for the one (1) year of coursework.

Based on the number of qualified candidates, an oral examination (weight 100) or an unassembled exam, consisting of an evaluation of education and experience as stated on the application form, will be administered. The examination process will test the knowledge and abilities described above. A minimum score of 70 must be attained for placement on the employment list.
