Description:
Under general direction, the Chief, Code Enforcement Division (functions as Community Improvement Director) manages and coordinates programs and activities involved in the enforcement of State and local codes pertaining to nuisance abatement; blight control; housing, zoning, and vehicle violations; manages redevelopment law, community development block grant applications, grant writing, affordable housing development, fair housing programs and contracts; and develops and implements special projects related to community engagement and improvement.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Either:
1a. A Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or
university in Public Administration, Business Administration,
Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Planning, or a
closely related field;
And
1b. Four years of full-time paid experience performing
redevelopment, community development, planning and/or code
enforcement activities; two years of which must have been in a
supervisory capacity or higher.
Or
2. Eight years of full-time paid experience performing
redevelopment, community development, planning and/or code
enforcement activities; two years of which must have been in a
supervisory capacity or higher.
Note Applicable to Pattern 2: Completion of coursework from an
accredited college or university in Public Administration,
Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political
Science, Planning or other closely related field may be
substituted for up to four years of the required
non-supervisory/management experience on the basis of 3.0
semester units (4.0 quarter units) = 1 month of work
experience.
Note: The word “experience” referenced in the minimum
qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the job
announcement states that volunteer experience is acceptable.
Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to
meet the total experience requirements.
