Description:

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill the Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner position at the Department of Agriculture Department. The Department of Agriculture’s primary responsibility is to enforce agricultural related laws and regulations pertaining to pesticide use enforcement, weights and measures, State and Federal plant quarantine including export certification, State seed and nursery inspection, and minimum State quality standards for produce. The Department is also responsible for carrying out County-wide programs for cannabis cultivation monitoring, pest detection, and weed and vertebrate pest management. The department’s vision is to promote and protect Yolo County agriculture and the environment, ensure the health and safety of Yolo County residents, and to foster confidence and equity in the marketplace through the fair and equitable enforcement of the laws, regulations, and ordinances enacted by the people of the State of California and the County of Yolo.
The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for assisting in the administration of the daily operations of the department for the development of departmental goals, policies, procedures and oversight of the operational systems within the department.

Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university with a specialization in one or more appropriate disciplines in agricultural, biological, chemical, or physical science as approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Experience:  Six years of increasingly responsible agricultural or weights and measures inspection and enforcement work including at least four years in a responsible supervisory capacity.

Licenses: Possession of a County Deputy Agricultural Commissioner License and County Deputy Sealer License.
