Description:

Sacramento County has a population of 1,433,000. Incorporated in 1850, Sacramento is one of the original 27 counties in California and is home to historic attractions such as the State Capitol, and natural amenities such as the American River. It encompasses 994 square miles in the middle of the 400-mile long Central Valley, which is the State’s prime agricultural region.

The County has a charter form of government, with a five-member Board of Supervisors elected on a non-partisan basis to serve four-year staggered terms. The FY2013-14 operating budget is $3.6 billion ($2.1 billion General Fund), the five-year CIP is $839 million and there are 11,700 employees. The County has 29 bargaining units, representing over 90% of the County workforce. This position oversees departments covering about 4,500 employees with combined budgets of about $1.2 billion in the areas of health, human assistance and criminal justice, among others. The position reports directly to the County Executive and Assistant County Executive and is exempt from Civil Service.

Qualifications:

​Desire a relevant bachelor’s degree (master’s degree or higher a plus) and at least two years of executive management experience in a public agency with responsibility for directing a public services organization. Should have experience overseeing budgets that involve multiple funding sources, as well as experience dealing effectively with labor organizations and a civil service system.
