Description:

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Finance are conducting a recruitment for the position of Chief Deputy Public Administrator. There is (1) one full-time vacancy.

Under the general direction of the Finance Division Chief, the Chief Deputy Public Administrator oversees all functions of the Public Administrator Division, including lead responsibility for directing staff in performing a wide range of estate-related activities. The primary responsibility of the Chief Deputy is to administer and manage estates of decedents placed under the jurisdiction of the Public Administrator. Within established guidelines, the Chief Deputy applies the provisions of applicable laws and makes decisions requiring independent judgment in the conduct of investigations and distribution of assets. In addition, the Chief Deputy oversees the preparation of the court accounting for summary and regular estates, the compilation of financial information and preparation of tax information for personal, fiduciary and estate taxes.

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in the field of estate administration and management along with thorough knowledge of the appropriate provisions of the California Probate Code and other pertinent laws and regulations, legal definitions and forms related to probate proceedings; strong investigative and evaluative thinking skills; effective communication skills; superior customer service skills; and demonstrated competency with accounting and financial system applications, estate research software and document management. Experience in the inventory, appraisal and sale of real and personal property is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or its equivalent which provides an opportunity to obtain the knowledge and abilities listed in the class specification and five years of experience in estate administration and management. Experience in management, control, analysis or investigation of real and personal property and other financial resources for a public agency or financial institution may be substituted on a year by year basis for up to four years of the required estate administration experience.
