Sacramento County is recruiting for the position of Chief Probation Officer.  The Chief Probation Officer plans, organizes, and directs all juvenile and adult probation operations, the juvenile detention facility, and programs and activities of the Probation Department.  This position is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the Probation Department’s juvenile and adult operations and allocating resources in a manner that maximizes efficiency in supervision, treatment and rehabilitation operations and enhances service to the public.  Working under broad policy direction, the Chief Probation Officer reports directly to the County Executive, the Juvenile Court Presiding Judge, and the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, and is exempt from Civil Service. This position functions as the appointing authority of the department; directs the preparation of the annual budget; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with various government and private entities; and directs studies of new and existing programs and special projects.
