The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Community Development Agency are announcing a recruitment for the position of Code Enforcement Specialist. There are two (2) full-time vacancies in the Marin County Community Development Agency.

Under the direction of the Senior Code Enforcement Specialist, the Code Enforcement Specialist investigates complaints for the Community Development Agency with an emphasis on working with property owners to bring their properties into compliance with the County’s zoning, building and environmental health regulations.

The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and work in a fast-paced environment and will have the ability to assess situations, apply the appropriate analysis, interpret applicable codes and ordinances through investigative methods and represent the department at code enforcement hearings. The ideal candidate has experience reading, interpreting and providing analysis to a third party about regulatory acts, Federal law, State law and County, Town and/or City regulations. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent writing, verbal and presentation skills, as well as excellent conflict resolution abilities. The ideal candidate will have some basic investigative skills and understand basic rules of evidence. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, a good problem solver and have excellent organizational and time management skills. Experience writing a report with heavy analysis and delivering or presenting the report to a third party is ideal.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of experience which will have provided a familiarity with code interpretation and application and which must have included explaining complex rules and regulations to the public. College level course work in a planning discipline or another technical specialty is desirable.

Special Requirement: Must successfully complete POST 832 Powers of Arrest within one year of the date of employment.
