Known for its close-knit, community-oriented rural/suburban environment, Sutter County (pop. 96,000) is centrally located, with the county seat of Yuba City just 40 miles north of Sacramento. The county was created in 1850 at the time of California’s statehood and, today, the majority of the county’s 608 square miles is still prime agricultural and grazing land. The County’s proposed FY ’16-’17 total budget is $276.6 million and 1,001 FTEs.

The county is seeking a seasoned leader with a proven track record of quickly and effectively assessing, engaging with, and acclimating to an organization’s needs, and embracing challenging opportunities for strategic success. This fiscally savvy, business-minded individual will be dedicated to the improvement of local economies and committed to active community participation and open, transparent government. A bridge builder who embraces collaborative partnerships as a method of improving services and creating efficiencies will be successful in this role. The new CAO will possess the emotional intelligence necessary to effectively lead and manage a diverse, high-performing staff and the political aptitude to anticipate issues of concern. Exceptional communication skills and a leadership presence supported by tangible accomplishments are expected.

Qualifications:

Five years of increasingly responsible experience performing complex budgetary, financial, policy and organizational analysis duties including experience working directly with an elected board or council is anticipated. A broad background in planning, monitoring and executing programs and general local government operations is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or a related field is desirable with a Master’s degree preferred.
