Description:

Sonoma County (population 500,000) is known for its innovation and leadership on a national level. It is located less than 30 miles north of San Francisco and boasts over 200 award-winning wineries, scenic coastline and beaches, the winding Russian River, majestic redwoods, 21 challenging golf courses, museums, galleries, diverse festivals, fine dining, and charming inns and spas. Agriculture and tourism are two of the major drivers behind the County’s economy. Sonoma County encompasses over one million acres of land and water, with open space and agricultural land accounting for a great majority of the acreage.

The City of Santa Rosa is the County seat. Sonoma is a general law county with five Board members elected by district, on a non-partisan basis, for four-year staggered terms. The Recommended FY 2016-17 County budget is $1.63 billion with 4,112 FTE staff positions. The County Administrator serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.

Qualifications:

Position requires a relevant bachelor’s degree; MPA preferred. Desire experience as either: 1) a county chief executive; or 2) a county assistant/deputy chief executive who has extensive direct interaction with elected officials. Candidates from all geographic areas will be considered, although knowledge of the California Legislature would be a plus. It is important to have demonstrated successful experience with budget and finance, labor relations, planning, health and human services, and criminal justice.
