Garfield County, population 56,000+, is one of the largest counties in Colorado, incorporating nearly 3,000 square miles on the western boundary of the state. The area boasts world class fishing, hunting, skiing, and the nationally recognized Glenwood Hot Springs. Garfield County, along with its neighboring counties, rely heavily on natural resource extraction, tourism, and ranching. About 60% of Garfield County’s lands are federally owned.

The County Manager is the chief administrative officer for 13 departments and approximately 300 employees, and reports directly to three elected County Commissioners. S/he will direct, administer, and manage the day-to-day operations of the County in accordance with the policies, goals, and objectives established by the Board of County Commissioners. Responsibilities include supervising county personnel matters; overseeing the development, presentation, and adherence to the County’s $128 million annual budget; assisting the Commissioners in the development and execution of key County policies, resolutions, programs, and initiatives to provide the highest quality services to the citzens of Garfield County; preparing the agendas for regular meetings of the Board; representing the County at various civic functions and as a board member on various committees; and meeting with citizens, other government officials, and media. 

Qualifications:

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a proven ability to build and lead a strong management team; have extensive knowledge of water and land use issues; be a strong communicator, relationship builder, and problem solver; have hands on experience with budgeting and financial management; and be politically and technologically savvy. Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, or related field is required; graduate degree preferred plus 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in local government management in an organization of comparable size and complexity at the Director or Assistant County Manager level.

Targeted hiring range is $109,387-$164,091 with a midpoint of $136,739/year. Salary will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
