Description:

The County of Marin is recruiting for a County Surveyor to plan, organize, direct and manage the operations of the survey unit in the Public Works Department. The survey unit provides highly technical services to County departments, private developers and County residents. The incumbent will perform difficult and complex professional land surveying work involving responsible charge duties in the field or office; assign, monitor and review the work of survey parties; provide assistance and/or direction to professional and technical staff; exercise responsible charge over examination of Records of Survey, Corner Records, Parcel Maps and Final Maps, including making determinations on such maps; serve as expert witness on County legal matters; and contract with outside agencies to act as City Surveyor.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership qualities, foster teamwork and a positive work environment, demonstrate effective communication to customers and across organizational levels, as well as possess extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of boundary establishment, the Professional Land Surveyor’ Act, the Subdivision Map Act, and other applicable laws and County Ordinances. They will be capable of performing field and office survey work required in the preparation of Record of Survey maps, subdivision maps, corner records, deed descriptions and plot plans for County projects, including supervising the maintenance of official records, maps and survey reports. This candidate will also have the ability to establish guidelines to maintain professional, technical and legal standards mandated by State law, prepare the annual equipment budget and make recommendations for the purchase of necessary surveying equipment, and represent the department at public hearings and before the Board of Supervisors and various commissions and may be asked to represent the County as an expert witness on surveying related matters.
