Description:

The County of El Dorado is conducting this recruitment to fill one (1) full-time Deputy Building Official vacancy for the Community Development Agency – Development Services Division located in Placerville.  It will also establish a list, for up to three months, which may be used to fill future full-time, part-time and extra-help vacancies.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, provides coordination, direction and planning for the programs and activities of Building Services within the Community Development Agency (CDA); supervises the administrative and technical work of the department; and acts on behalf of the Deputy Director/Building Official during absences.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a single position classification, which reports directly to the Deputy Director/Building Official. The incumbent assists in policy development, program planning, fiscal management, administration and operation of the County’s Building function. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of Building Services through subordinate supervisors and lead personnel. This class is distinguished from the Deputy Director/Building Official in that the latter is a Deputy Director with responsibility for overall policy development, program planning, fiscal management and operation of the County’s Building function.

Qualifications:

Equivalent to possession of an Associate of Arts degree with major course-work in pre-engineering, construction technology, accounting, Business Administration or a related field
-AND-
Two (2) years of supervisory experience in building code and related enforcement functions, including standards development. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction technology or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be willing to attend meetings outside of normal working hours. Must possess an ICBO certification as a Combination Building Inspector or Building Official.
