Description:

The County of Santa Clara seeks an experienced law enforcement leader with excellent character and integrity who reflects the vision and shares the mission of the Probation Department. The Deputy Chief should have a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of management, supervision and training, program planning and development, and cost control methods. The Deputy Chief Probation Officer will assist the Chief Probation Officer in determining efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services, and in the development of departmental goals, policies, procedures and programs. The Deputy Chief Probation Officer must be adept at budgeting, creative in developing staffing plans, have the ability to build community confidence and ensure that concerns of ethnic and minority communities are handled with sensitivity.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate would typically possess education and experience emphasizing administrative or managerial responsibility in a large and complex organization, providing human services in such fields as probation, corrections, and administration of justice. It is anticipated that successful applicants will possess a BA with major work in public or business administration, probation services or other related administration of justice or Human Services fields. A minimum of 3 years of broad and extensive management experience preferably in probation, administration of justice, or other Human Services fields is required. Note: A Master’s degree in probation, administration of justice, or other Human Services fields is preferred. Final candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation.
