Description:

Represents County departments, special boards, commissions, special districts or other governmental agencies and advises them on legal questions regarding their powers, functions, jurisdiction, procedures and operations; prepares and tries a variety of civil cases involving liability, condemnation, elections, police powers, zoning, personnel matters, probate, special assessments, public assistance or management of County property; represents and advises Child Protective Services and the Public Guardian regarding dependency cases; confers with attorneys, County officials and other parties regarding assigned legal matters; prepares or supervises the preparation of legal documents such as ordinances, opinions, briefs and resolutions; performs legal research; drafts and approves as to legal sufficiency various contracts, leases, conveyances or other agreements; expands level of expertise; reads new case and statutory law and legislative changes; attends training seminars; studies and applies training material. Qualifications:

Both Levels:
Education
: Possession of active, valid membership in the California State Bar is evidence of sufficient education for this classification.

License: Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Level I:
Experience: No previous experience as a licensed attorney is required.

Level II:
Experience: One year of experience equivalent to a Deputy County Counsel I in Kings County; OR two years of experience practicing as a licensed attorney.
