Description:

The San Luis Obispo County Counsel’s office has a rare and exciting opportunity for experienced attorneys. Specifically, the office is accepting applications for two openings for the position of Deputy County Counsel III-IV. One of our successful candidates will work primarily in Employment Law. The other will concentrate on Land Use Law. These positions provide legal advice to the County through its numerous officers, agencies, commissions and departments, and also litigate on behalf of the County in State and Federal courts. The individuals selected for these positions will be knowledgeable and experienced attorneys who are prepared to guide their client departments and hearing bodies with little day-to-day oversight.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills. Specifically, we are seeking candidates that have superior writing skills, can argue persuasively, and can serve as reliable and strategic legal advisors. We are looking for individuals with demonstrated records of success in government settings who desire diverse and interesting work among diverse and interesting colleagues and clients.

Minimum Qualifications
Deputy County Counsel III: Either A: Two years of experience as an attorney in the practice of law for a public agency or three years in the practice of general civil law; OR B: One year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Deputy County Counsel II with San Luis Obispo County.

Deputy County Counsel IV: Either A: Three years of progressively responsible experience as an attorney in the practice of law for a public agency or four years in the practice of general civil law;OR B: One year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Deputy County Counsel III with San Luis Obispo County.
