SCLD is seeking a dynamic leader who is decisive, well organized and possesses considerable management experience. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly qualified individual capable of providing effective leadership to a diverse staff and who has strong team building abilities. Using broad discretion, the DCL plans; organizes, develops and administers the activities of the Library District, which is comprised of nine of the cities and the unincorporated area. The member cities are Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, and Saratoga. The County Librarian repots directly to the County Executive, while receiving policy and budget direction from a Joint Powers Authority Board (JPA), the governing body of the Library. The JPA is made up of eleven elected officials, including two members of the County Board of Supervisors and nine City council members, representing each of the library district’s jurisdictions.
A Master’s degree in Library Science and five years of recent responsible supervisory and administrative experience in a community library system; three years of should include participation in program and policy determination on a system wide basis or as the librarian in charge of a community library; valid California Driver’s License.
