The County of Sonoma is pleased to accept applications for Deputy Director of Emergency Management. Starting salary up to $139,711/year.

The Deputy Director of Emergency Management will provide leadership to a team of Emergency Management Coordinators, serve as the Director of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated, and develop EOC trainings and operational plans. The Deputy Director will provide leadership for the County’s Emergency Staff Development program; oversee the countywide evacuation planning project, develop an Emergency Operation Plan Annex annually, and oversee the department’s logistical functions related to emergency preparedness.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A four-year degree in emergency management, public safety, business or public administration, or a closely related field
• Significant knowledge of and experience managing a disaster management program or an extended duration, complex emergency incident
• Experience leading staff engaged in emergency management programs and services
• The ability to lead and coordinate staffing and logistics for an EOC
• Experience in developing and delivering federal grant programs
• Political acumen and an ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including elected and appointed officials
