Description:

The County of Santa Clara is seeking an innovative and proactive leader for the position of Deputy Director of Probation Administration. The ideal candidate for this position will have considerable education and managerial experience in planning, organizing and directing programs and initiatives to demonstrate the ability to perform the management responsibilities that will help advance the development and delivery of services within the department.

This is a newly created executive position that is designed to create an organizational infrastructure focused on day to day administration of staff and programs of the Probation Department, providing policy direction, program development, accountability and achievement of outcomes.

The Deputy Director of Probation Administration will be responsible for assisting the Chief Probation Officer in the strategic planning, directing and administering of the activities and services in the operations, programs and systems of the Probation Department, consistent with the department’s goals and objectives.

In addition, the Deputy Director will be responsible for analyzing the implications of proposed legislative and regulatory changes, providing expertise in regulatory requirement needs determination and program integration, providing legislative analysis regarding management support activity, and determining financial implications of proposed and actual legislative and regulatory changes, including implementing and enforcing policy matters related to probation programs and administrative operations.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate would possess education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in criminology, corrections, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, business/public administration or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of recent experience administering/managing complex, large scale programs and projects for a probation or correction organization, at least two (2) of which should be at a supervisory level.
