Description:
The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County
Department of Health and Human Services (H&HS) are announcing
a recruitment for the position of Deputy Public Health Officer.
There is one full-time vacancy available in Public Health
Administration.
Under general direction of the Public Health Officer, the Deputy
Public Health Officer assists in the administration and medical
oversight of public health programs for the County. These include
communicable disease prevention and control, public health
emergency and disaster planning and response, public health
laboratory services, and dental and detention health services.
The Deputy will also serve as the Communicable Disease Controller
and Tuberculosis Controller and will supervise teams responsible
for the surveillance, investigation and prevention of
communicable diseases. The position works closely with the Health
Officer and other lead staff in the management of public health
disasters or emergencies. The position shares on-call public
health duties with the Public Health Officer.
This position is distinguished from the Health Officer in that
the Health Officer is appointed by the County Board of
Supervisors, directs medical oversight and policy for the County,
and possesses the powers, duties, and responsibilities relating
to the preservation and protection of public health. The Deputy
Public Health Officer assists in directing the medical oversight
and policy for the County, and does not carry full powers, duties
and responsibilities relating to public health, but may act in
the absence of the Health Officer.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
• A superior command of both written and oral communication
• Experience building partnerships and developing positive,
collaborative rapport with various health care providers,
community-based organizations, county staff and the state public
health department
• A history of making strategic decisions in a fast-paced
environment, sometimes with limited available data
• A competency for researching and gathering data from various
sources and stakeholders
• A proven track record of being adaptable in fluid situations
and during organizational change
• An advanced knowledge of computer applications and the ability
to champion technology and adapt to the latest trends
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and
experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed
below. Typically, equivalent to graduation from an accredited
school of medicine and one year of progressively responsible work
in a public health service that includes both clinical and
managerial experience.
Candidates must possess a valid California Physician and Surgeons
Certificate issued by the California Medical Board; a current
Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the Drug
Enforcement Administration, schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5.
