Description:

Located in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay area, Contra Costa County enjoys world renowned educational institutions such as Stanford University and UC Berkeley within driving distance as well as such recreational gems as Mt. Diablo State Park, the Napa Valley wine country, and the Sierra Lake Tahoe mountain region. The Agriculture/Weights & Measures Department includes four main divisions: Administration, the Agricultural Division, Weights and Measures, and the Cooperative Extension, which handles public outreach through the University of California. The Department has a recommended FY 2012/2013 operating budget of $5.6 million and has 48 full-time employees. Under the administrative direction of the County Administrator, the Director of Agriculture, Weights and Measures is responsible for the effective administration of comprehensive enforcement programs directed toward the protection of the agricultural industry and the buying public through enforcement of State laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Requires graduation from an accredited college or university and five years full-time experience in agricultural regulatory work, with three years in a management or supervisory capacity.   Must have valid State certificates of eligibility as a County Agricultural Commissioner and County Sealer of Weights and Measures.
