The Director of Airports is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to lead the Department, whose 22 employees operate seven airports in Kern County, including Meadows Field (BFL), Elk Hills, Kern River Valley, Lost Hills, Poso/Famoso, Taft, and Wasco. Meadows Field serves more than 270,0000 travelers per year, offering nonstop flights from Bakersfield to Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco and one-stop flights to hundreds of domestic and international destinations. The ideal candidate will have strong executive skills, understand commercial civil airport operations and funding; and will  cooperate closely with elected officials, public and private agency leaders, County airport users, the public and the media.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, airport management, or related field and five years of experience in airport or public agency administration and/or policy development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) certification by the American Association of Airport Executives is desired.  California Driver’s License also required.
