Description:

Under general direction of the Director, Finance Agency, the Director, Department of Revenue and Tax is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and review of activities related to the various Division areas within the Department of Revenue and Tax.

The expectation of the new Director is one of a leadership role in the development and implementation of a department-wide structure, with goals that would meet the current and future needs of the County. These include monitoring, interpreting, and directing the implementation of new revenue and tax laws, policies, procedures, and staffing resources in the new department. Also expected is that this position will maintain a high awareness of best practices, and significant developments in property tax revenue collection, delinquent collections, and accounting.

Qualifications:

The Director will represent the department at policy levels across the state, as well as with the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive, representatives of other government agencies, labor unions, and County agency/department heads, to achieve increased revenue generation, policy development, and champion initiatives to improve collections efforts and enhance customer services for the County.

A qualified candidate would typically possess education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a closely related field, and five (5) to eight (8) years progressively responsible experience in the management of tax and revenue administration, tax auditing or accounting operations for a large public organization or private entity comparable to the organizational structure of the County of Santa Clara. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
