Description:

Butte County is governed by an elected five-member Board of Supervisors and provides services to residents through 23 diverse departments. The Director of Human Resources directs the activities of the Butte County Human Resources Department and is a key member of the County’s Leadership Team. The Human Resources Department is responsible for providing human resource services to 23 County departments and 2,400 employees including consultation regarding County personnel rules and disciplinary actions, recruitment, development and modification of job classifications, administration of employee leave programs, payroll services, benefit administration, investigations, and administration of the merit system and personnel rules. The Director is a department head responsible for managing the County’s personnel program. As a key management team member, the Director advises appointed and elected officials, and is a participant in all personnel decisions, including employee labor relations and negotiations. The position requires a keen sensitivity and ability to anticipate and resolve potential problems before they develop.The ideal candidate for this position will be an accomplished, forward thinking human resources professional with a proven track record.

Qualifications:

A Baccalaureate Degree in public or business administration, political science, or other related fields from an accredited college or university, and six years of increasingly responsible professional personnel experience. It is desirable that three to four years of this professional experience must have been in a public jurisdiction and have included the direction and supervision of subordinate professional staff. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience excluding the supervisory experience.
