Description:

Sonoma County (Santa Rosa, CA) has a population of 490,000 and is located less than 30 miles north of San Francisco. It boasts over 200 wineries, scenic coastline and beaches, the winding Russian River, diverse festivals, fine dining, and charming inns and spas. The County has 4,009 FTE employees with 56.5 FTEs in the HR Department. The Director of Human Resources reports to the County Administrator and, through her, to the Board of Supervisors with regard to management of the Department, general human resource issues and employee relations matters; and is accountable to the five-member Civil Service Commission in managing the County Merit System, interpreting and enforcing the Civil Service Ordinance and Rules. This is an unclassified position appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

Qualifications:

Desire the equivalent of a relevant bachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience in human resources management, including at least two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Human resource experience in the public sector is highly desirable, particularly with a general purpose local government. It is important to have experience in an organization with a comparable diversity of classifications and, if not with a county, with an organization of at least 750 employees. Desire significant experience in labor relations and negotiations, and benefits management.
