Description:

The County of San Mateo is seeking a strategic thinker and proven leader who can effectively promote and develop programs to achieve economic self-sufficiency, strengthen individuals and families and build community capacity as the Director of Human Services Agency. The successful candidate will be a collaborator, advocate and consensus builder who can work with a variety of public and private organizations, providers, family members, consumers and a diverse staff to develop and sustain culturally competent services.

Reporting to the County Manager, the Director of the Human Services Agency plans, directs and oversees the functions and activities of the Human Services Agency. This is a highly visible role in which the Director works and collaborates closely with staff, nonprofit organizations and community partners to ensure that all individuals and families become healthy, productive and contributing members of the community.

With a staff of 800 and an annual budget of $250 million, the Director oversees and administers programs related to economic assistance, health insurance, homeless services, employment services, adoptions, homelessness, child abuse prevention, family reunification, and other related services to strengthen families.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have six years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the human services, social welfare, or health services field, at least two years of which involved directing, planning, organizing and coordinating public social service programs. Additionally, the candidate will ideally have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a Master’s Degree in Counseling/Psychology.
