Description:

In the heart of the California Gold Country, Calaveras County (population 46,000) is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The County is home to a wide variety of distinct communities, each with its own colorful personality and rich cultural history. 

The Director of Planning leads the County’s Planning Department and serves as a key member of the County management team.  The Department, with an allocated full-time staff of seven positions, is a separate county department operating under the general direction of the County Administrative Officer.  The Director will be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in General Plan law, the California Environmental Quality Act, the Subdivision Map Act and Planning and Zoning laws, along with knowledge of affordable housing and grant programs.

Qualifications:

A minimum of five years of professional level, public agency planning experience, which includes at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity, is required. Equivalency to a Bachelor’s degree in land use planning or a related field is also a requirement.  County planning experience and an AICP certification is preferred.
