The Director will plan, organize and administer programs and operations of the Public Health Division to determine and interpret departmental policies; provide leadership and direction to departmental managers and staff to ensure management responsibility and public accountability for the Division’s service delivery; provide supervision and direction to subordinate personnel; and perform related duties as required.

The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping departmental priorities in the changing landscape of Public Health, including realizing the promise of ACA in integration of public health and primary care, the pursuit of public health accreditation, and narrowing large gaps in health status between Marin communities.

The ideal candidate will be a forward thinking, motivated individual who can provide proactive leadership and vision to promote the public health of Marin. This includes having:

• Excellent managerial, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Strong relationships within the public health field across other jurisdictions and agencies
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills, as well as discretion, sound judgment and political acumen

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience managing teams to foster an inspiring work environment while driving continuous quality improvement and accountability toward established goals. The new Director, will understand the factors that influence public health policy, and be able to set and drive H&HS public health policy objectives. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by resource-limited communities; a firm grasp of Community capacity building; and an understanding of the evolving role of the healthcare system as an ally in disease prevention. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful participation in collaborative leadership and vision-setting for an organization dedicated to advancing health.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically a Master’s Degree in Public Health or Health Administration and four years of progressively responsible management and administrative experience in a large and complex health, mental health or social services organization.
