Description:

The Public Works Director will provide leadership, administrative oversight and policy direction to the various divisions and organizational units of a comprehensive and broad-based department.  This position is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and will have extensive interaction with both the Board and the County CAO.  The scope of this role incorporates the traditional operations of both public works and general services. Progressive leadership and project management expertise are critical in this position.  The Director will ensure a strong and motivated workforce by providing staff support, career development opportunities, training and succession planning.

Qualifications:

This position requires at least four years of management experience overseeing a comprehensive and broad based engineering or operational public works organization.  This experience must have included management of staff through subordinate levels of management or supervision.  A BS/BA degree or equivalent in civil engineering or a related field is required.  An advanced degree in an engineering field and registration as a PE in the State of California are desired.
