Description:

The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services is seeking an experienced, innovative leader who is passionate about community health improvement to fill one full-time vacancy as Environmental Health Program Manager for the Environmental Health and Safety Section. Appointed by and reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Section Manager, the Environmental Health Program Manager is part of the Environmental Health and Safety Section’s program development team and works to support continuous quality improvement, accountability, fiscal responsibility, and the enhancement of innovative and proficient consumer and environmental protection programs. The position is responsible for working with three Supervising Environmental Health Specialists to develop programs, establish performance standards, and facilitate opportunities for staff training and advancement which furthers the mission of the

Department and the strategic direction of the County. Additional responsibilities include development of the annual budget, analysis of fees for service, and contract/grant management. This position will work collaboratively to share and facilitate efficient, sustainable, accountable, and innovative programs, ensuring effective customer service, and coordinate program activities with other government agencies, county departments, and the private sector. This position also plans, organizes, manages, and directs environmental health program operations which include professional, fiscal, and personnel management functions; performs analyses of complex problems affecting program efficiency; establishes program goals and objectives; evaluates program performance; supervises a staff of professional and technical personnel in one or more assigned programs; and acts for the Environmental Health and Safety Section Manager in his/her absence.

Qualifications:

This position requires Possession of a valid certification of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California. Other qualifications for this position normally include graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in health science, public health, natural science, physical science, environmental science, or a related field and three years of experience at a level equivalent to the Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist class within Sonoma County service. A Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Science, or Public Administration is highly desirable.
