Description:

The California State Association of Counties (CSAC) is recruiting for a dynamic External Affairs Coordinator for its award-winning Communications team.

The External Affairs Coordinator is responsible for leading local and regional external communications efforts that support the strategic direction of CSAC for advocacy, education and communication purposes. Responsibilities include: planning and content development of CSAC local and regional outreach and public awareness materials; development of local media networks and outreach/educational strategies; development of relationships with county supervisors and key staff; creation of written materials; responding to external requests for information; assisting with video production specific to local or regional programs/events; assisting with CSAC’s social media efforts; coordination of speakers and sessions for meetings and conferences; and providing emergency on-site communications support to counties facing a disaster or communications crisis. 

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate would possess experience with and knowledge of county government; media experience; understanding of public relations principles and practices; experience using social media, and ability to travel extensively within California’s 58 counties. Necessary skills include strong writing and editing for a variety of collateral documents; ability to provide media relations and/or public relations on behalf of CSAC and member counties; refined communication and interpersonal skills; must be able to interact with coworkers, supervisors, general public, etc. sufficiently to exchange or convey information and receive work direction; strong presentation skills; ability to effectively prioritize work and work on own, as needed.  

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field; and 5-7 years of experience working in communications in a public or non-profit organization; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
