Description:

The Fire Chief is an at-will position, appointed by and reporting to the City Manager, which will participate as a member of the Executive Management Team. Under administrative direction of the City Manager, the successful candidate will plan, direct, and oversee the operations and services of the Fire Department, which includes a staff of 48, by developing and implementing policies and establishing procedures related but not limited to: fire suppression, protection, and prevention, hazardous materials and disaster preparedness, medical response and other related activities; create, present, and monitor the department budget; prepare and present master plan reports addressing growth impact on emergency services; ensure proper planning for disaster preparedness programs and activities in accordance with ordinances, laws, codes, polices, and regulations; resolve discrepancies or procedural problems ensuring necessary follow-up; hire, direct work efforts and evaluate staff; provide for and/or conduct staff development; establish work methods and standards; initiate corrective and/or disciplinary action and respond to grievances and complaints. Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in fire technology, public administration, or a related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible fire service management experience, including three (3) years battalion chief or higher level supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
