Description:

The Riverside County Fire Department is now recruiting for the position of Fire Protection Engineering Associate/Fire Protection Engineer (FPE). Reporting directly to the Fire Marshal, the position is responsible for complex engineering duties including plan review and inspections to ensure compliance with the California Fire Code and related codes, standards, and regulations. The incumbent will analyze and address fire protection and life safety issues for existing structures and new construction, and will support fire personnel with technical guidance and also serve and represent the Fire Department as a technical expert. The incumbent will also participate in code adoption activities, and will assist building owners and and developers by developing guidelines and technical publications, as well as recommend courses of action and alternative methods for fire protection issues.

The Fire Protection Engineering Associate is the underfill classification. Positions in this class possess a bachelor’s degree, engineer-in-training certificate, and professional experience but have not completed/passed the exam for professional licensure. The Fire Protection Engineer is the fully-qualified and experienced, professionally licensed classification. The level at which the positionis filled is at the Department’s discretion and based on candidate qualifications.

Competitive candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering and have extensive professional engineering experience in fire protection and life safety. Candidates with both public sector experience in complex plan review and system inspections, as well as private sector consulting experience in fire protection engineering are highly desired.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, certificate of registration as a Fire Protection Engineer, and two years of professional engineering experience in fire protection. Candidates with a Fire Protection Engineer license outside of California must obtain licensure within the probationary period from date of hire.

(Candidates with at least one year of experience, a certificate as an Engineer-In-Training, and who are within six months of obtaining licensure will underfill at the Fire Protection Engineering Associate.)
