The annual salary for the Parks Director is $116,400 – $158,970. Appointments are limited to 4th step, or $136,674, depending on qualifications. Step increases can be awarded every two years thereafter graduating to 7th step (top) of the salary range based on satisfactory performance.
The Monterey County area, with its moderate Mediterranean climate, is a multi-cultural and diverse society set in a picturesque coastal location. Monterey County is now seeking a Parks Director (& Chief Ranger) to oversee a FY budget of $13.6 million and 63 employees. The Parks Director is an at-will employee, appointed by and reporting directly to the County Administrative Officer, and is a key member of the County’s executive team.
Candidates for this position must: meet the minimum standards for peace officers in the State of California; possess a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Conservation, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field; and have at least 5 years’ experience in community recreational development and/or park administration, with at least 3 years in a management capacity.
