Salary:

The annual salary for the Parks Director is $116,400 - $158,970.  Appointments are limited to 4th step, or $136,674, depending on qualifications.  Step increases can be awarded every two years thereafter graduating to 7th step (top) of the salary range based on satisfactory performance.

Description:

The Monterey County area, with its moderate Mediterranean climate, is a multi-cultural and diverse society set in a picturesque coastal location.  Monterey County is now seeking a Parks Director (& Chief Ranger) to oversee a FY budget of $13.6 million and 63 employees.  The Parks Director is an at-will employee, appointed by and reporting directly to the County Administrative Officer, and is a key member of the County’s executive team.

Qualifications:

Candidates for this position must: meet the minimum standards for peace officers in the State of California; possess a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Conservation, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field; and have at least 5 years’ experience in community recreational development and/or park administration, with at least 3 years in a management capacity.
