Description:

Under administrative direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), plans, manages, organizes, coordinates, supervises and directs the programs and activities of the County’s Planning and Building Services Department (which has branches on the coast and inland). The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively lead collaborative efforts among division leaders, departments, and other public entities to identify and implement new ways to provide seamless and integrated services to the public; as well as research and evaluate opportunities for local economic development and provide leadership and display initiative in effectively managing and overseeing a multi-disciplinary department in a changing environment; set departmental priorities, administrative program policy direction, and establish short-term, and long-range goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Community or Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, Architecture, or a related field.
Experience:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in administrative management functions or the development services would provide such opportunity; or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Strong management skills are required and leadership ability is desired.
