Description:
The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County
Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the
position of Principal Civil Engineer. There is one full-time
vacancy in the Flood Control & Water Resources Division. The
eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used
to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open,
fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in
this assignment and any other assignments while the list remains
active. Eligibility lists remain active for a minimum of six (6)
months.
Principal Civil Engineers are the division head classification
within the professional engineer series, assigned as chief over a
major engineering division of the Department of Public Works
whose staff is engaged in a wide variety of engineering projects
and/or programs. The position has responsibility for implementing
multiple and complex programs of extremely broad scope that are
characterized by highly difficult and sensitive public,
engineering and legislative issues. Incumbents will be expected
to exercise substantial initiative, judgment and expertise in
administering the programs of these divisions. The current
vacancy is in the Flood Control and Water Resources Division. The
Division manages many County flood risk reduction initiatives and
the Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District.
Qualifications:
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate has
registration as a professional Civil Engineer and experience in
flood control and water resources engineering. They have
experience successfully managing complex civil engineering
projects, including planning and evaluating projects and
completing project deliverables on schedule. The ideal candidate
effectively manages program budgetary, staff and consultant
resources, makes decisions regarding service quality levels, and
makes clear decisions for the effective execution of program
plans. In addition, the ideal candidate provides clear
interpretation of civil engineering regulations and policies and
maintains successful working relationships with governmental
boards, commissions and members of the general public. The ideal
candidate has experience in delivering flood control projects to
reduce flooding and enhance the environment.
Minimum Qualifications: Five years of increasingly
responsible professional engineering experience which provides
the knowledge and skill requirements as listed in the class
specification.
License Requirements: Registration as a Civil Engineer
issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil
and Professional Engineers.
